Like clockwork they arrive: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then the SARC.

The SARC?! Yes, we submit our Semiannual Report to Congress, or SARC, in the late fall and spring each year. This SARC outlines our work and activities for the six-month period of April 1 through September 30, 2018, and serves as one way we fulfill our mission of ensuring efficiency, accountability, and integrity in the U.S. Postal Service.

We report to Congress and also to the Postal Service Board of Governors. And for the first time in two years, we have independent governors to report to. In August, two independent governors were sworn in.

This period, we issued 95 audit reports, management advisories, data analysis memorandums, and white papers, and the Postal Service accepted 75 percent of our recommendations. We completed 1,577 investigations that led to 400 arrests and nearly $72.8 million in fines, restitutions, and recoveries, $37.2 million of which was turned over to the Postal Service.

But it’s not just about the numbers. Our investigative work seeks to protect the mail and ensure the integrity of postal processes, finances, and personnel. We group our work around a handful of broad focus areas: health care fraud (claimant and provider); mail theft; contract fraud; financial fraud; computer crimes; and narcotics in the mail.

Our audit work and white papers look to promote efficiencies in postal operations and processes. This period, we focused on five areas: mission operations; finance and pricing; supply management and human resources; retail, delivery and marketing; and  information technology.

Many of the audit reports and white papers we released in this period were featured in this blog and via our Facebook page and Twitter feed. The reason for this outreach is simple: we want to engage stakeholders through as many channels as possible.

    My if are car is parked in front of my mail box,( and my carrier is on a mounted route) is he still obligated to deliver the mail as long as he can physically reach the mail box?

    HCR contracts are a joke. We store there trailers for free...!!! Which dosen't happen anywhere else ? Let alone move there Trailers to there dispatch stalls so they can be loaded for dispatch...
